TAP Goals:
1. Increase student achievement by helping teachers and administrators
enhance their professional skills.
2. Make teaching a more attractive and rewarding career choice.
TAP provides teachers with an ongoing system of professional development
that is job-embedded, collaborative, student-centered and led by
expert instructors.
TAP restructures the school schedule to provide time during the
regular school day for teachers to meet, learn, plan, mentor and
share with other teachers, so they can constantly improve the quality
of their instruction and, hence, increase their students' academic
achievement. This collaborative time allows teachers to learn new
instructional strategies and share best practices to be more effective
engaging students in the classroom.
TAP professional growth includes cluster groups, individual coaching
and classroom-based support.
Teachers are responsible for meeting the TAP Teaching Skills, Knowledge
and Responsibility Standards, as Well as for the academic growth
of their students. TAP helps teachers meet accountability standards
through ongoing individualized training, mentoring and classroom
support.
TAP-certified staff analyze classroom instruction for every TAP
teacher four times a year, comparing instruction techniques and
performance with TAP Instructional Standards. Conferences are held
between the teacher and evaluator before and after announced observations
to discuss areas of reinforcement and refinement with the goal of
strengthening classroom instructional techniques in order to meet
identified student needs.
At the school year's end, teachers are eligible for performance
awards based on the learning growth achieved by their students throughout
the school year.
